A firm Fenn favourite! This tour takes in the highlights of Cumbria, considered to be one of the most beautiful regions of the UK. We take in spectacular scenery on this tour, as well as visiting some fantastic sites. We also include three railway journeys and a visit to Kielder Water, Hexham and Hadrian’s Wall.

Your Itinerary:

From your front door to the waiting Club Class coach for the scenic drive north to Cumbria. We arrive at our holiday hotel late afternoon, where we are welcomed by tea/coffee and biscuits. We then have plenty of time to settle in before dinner this evening.

Today we head for Longtown and drive along Liddesdale as we make our way to picturesque Kielder Water and Forest Park. We take a break at the visitor centre before continuing to Bellingham and Hexham, dominated by the Abbey overlooking the market square. This afternoon we return along the path of Hadrian’s Wall, which stretched some 76 miles from Tyne to the Solway.

This morning we start our first train journey of the day in Carlisle. The line follows the Cumbrian coastline through Maryport and Whitehaven, the stunning sea views stay with us to Ravenglass. Here we join the Ravenglass and Eksdale Railway- L’al Ratty steam train from the coast to the foothills of England’s highest mountains, seven miles of steam in the Lake District National Park.

More fantastic scenery today as we make our way into the Yorkshire Dales to Kirkby Lonsdale, where we find the weekly market in full swing. Then we travel on past the immense Ribblehead Viaduct through charming Horton-in-Ribblehead to Settle. In the afternoon we take in the most spectacular train journey on a main line railway in the whole of England- the famous Settle to Carlisle line. Towering viaducts, bridges, long deep tunnels, lovingly kept station gardens all help to make this one of the best loved lines in the country. We travel along the whole line back to Carlisle and our hotel for our last evening’s dinner.

After breakfast we bid farewell to our hosts at the Crown & Mitre Hotel. We head south before reaching our home areas late afternoon.
